Annual Meeting 2010
On Tuesday, September 17th, Arc Kandiyohi County held its Annual Meeting with approximately 85 people in attendance. The event was held at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. The program began with a welcome and introductions by Board President Becky Knudson. Mary Rhude, Executive Director, began with nominations and approval of new officers and followed up with her Executive Report as well as discussion on the Annual Report which was handed out.
People First performed a skit called "People First Language" which highlighted the importance of using proper language when speaking about or to individuals with disabilities.
Announcement of name change and award recipient of the Eileen Huberty Post Secondary Scholarship - Bryan Nelson.
Recognition was given to the 2 interns from Ridgewater's Sales and Marketing program - Kathy Habisch and Shane Zeitz. They worked in the Arc office this summer putting together draft business proposals in an attempt to facilitate the process for a small business start-up to produce sustainable income. Thank you to Vicki Melbye, program instructor for her guidance.
Recognition was given to the amazing lifeguards from the Dorothy Olson Aquatic Center as well as to LeAnne Freeman, Willmar Community Ed & Rec, for sponsoring our first ever Adaptive Swimming Lessons. This endeavor was a huge success for young families.
Recognition was given to any local employers who employ individuals with disabilities.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of our local Arc Awards. Congratulations to the following: Outstanding Self Advocate - Joe Gode, Outstanding Volunteer - Deb Friedrichs, Outstanding Professional - Prescription Center, Outstanding Education Partner - National Honor Society, Outstanding Parent/Family Advocate - Helaine Bolter, Outstanding Paraprofessional - Ilah Schwartz, Outstanding Community Partner - LeAnne Freeman
